Music History Through Listening
Course Description:
In this course, students will listen to and learn about different musical styles throughout history. The music listened to will be taken from the following style periods: Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century, American Folk, American Jazz, American Musical Theater, Rock, Pop, and the music of our contemporary electronic age. Students will develop many listening skills to help identify specific types of music and elements of music. Background material for each unit will provide a cultural, historical and social understanding for the music presented. All selections will be listened to and discussed in class. Recordings for listening assignments as well as supplementary readings are available on this website.
